Sweet taste of Syros in a bite
In the heart of Ermoupolis, a traditional confectionery has been preserving for four generations the art of a sweet that has become synonymous with Syros. Refugees from Smyrna brought the craft of loukoumi to the island in the early 20th century, and since then the tradition has been passed down from generation to generation. The process remains unchanged: spring water with a hint of salinity, copper cauldrons, sugar, starch, and aromas of rose, mastiha, or lemon. Each loukoumi is cut and dusted by hand, carrying the care, love, and authenticity of another era. Visitors have the chance to taste flavors that bridge past and present: loukoumia in many variations, internationally awarded halvadopita, as well as delights such as sesame bars and liqueurs. The experience is not just about taste: every bite is a small story — a piece of culture and memory.
